Safe Home Volunteers

Safe Home volunteers provide valuable service to individuals living in abusive situations. If interested in volunteering, please call 717-637-2125.

How You Can Help:

Are you the person, your friends, call at 3:00 a.m. for help? Do you remain calm when everyone around you is freaking out? Have you been looking for a way to give back to your community that directly impacts the lives of your family, friends, and neighbors? YWCA Hanover’s Safe Home is looking to recruit and train new volunteers for our 24/7 crisis hotline.

As a hotline volunteer, you will be on the front lines, working with victims of domestic violence to help them navigate challenging times, seek safety, and find assistance. Safe Home’s hotline volunteers receive extensive training to prepare them to answer crisis calls, including 45 hours of training on topics including myths and facts about domestic violence, confidentiality, cultural competency, and principles of advocacy. New volunteers must pass background checks and become mandated reporters of child abuse. Our volunteers work hotline shifts Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. No weekends or holidays are required. After training, volunteers select which shifts and how often they are on-call. Volunteers can choose to be on-call several times a week, to as little as once or twice a month.
