Explore world issues from different perspectives and learn more about your neighbors through this new monthly virtual series, created by YWCA Hanover. Each conversation brings together individuals in our community from different disciplines, and life experiences to discuss a range of social, educational, political, and religious topics.
Join us on Tuesday 5/25/2021 as YWCA Hanover’s Enlightened Conversation’s host Lisa Smith discusses Scott Mingus Sr.’s new book, “Guiding Lights: Underground Railroad Conductors in York County, PA.” Scott has written 21 Civil War books. His biography of Confederate General William “Extra Billy” Smith was nominated for or won multiple awards, including Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr. Literary Prize. He also wrote several articles for Gettysburg Magazine. Scott maintains a blog on the Civil War history of York County PA (www.yorkblog.com/cannonball) and received the 2013 Heritage Profile Award from the York County History Center for his many contributions to local Civil War history. His great-great-grandfather was a 15-year-old drummer boy in the 51st Ohio Infantry, and other family members fought in the Army of the Potomac at Antietam and Gettysburg.
